Sunplus Completes Acquisition of Oak Optical Storage Business Invests in a new joint venture, Sunext Technology
Science-Based Industrial Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. April 7th, 2003 - Sunplus Technology Co., Ltd. (TSE: 2401, LSE: SUPD), a Taiwan-based publicly held, fabless integrated circuit design house focused on the consumer market, today announced the acquisition of Oak technology optical storage business has been completed. Sunplus will spin off a new company Sunext Technology Co., Ltd. To handle the optical storage business, and Oak will also invest as a minority investor.

The transaction, which closed on April 3, includes the transfer of Oak's optical storage business and certain assets to Sunplus for approximately $30 million, which includes $16 million in cash and the equivalent of $14 million in shares of Sunplus common stock.
