Company History
Sunplus Technology Company Limited was established in 1990. After
3 years, Sunplus moved into the Hsinchu Science Park. In September
1997, Sunplus became a listed company on Taiwan's Over the Counter
Stock Exchange and was listed on the main board of the Taiwan Stock
Exchange (TSE) in January 2000. In March 2001, Sunplus successfully
launched its Global Depositary Receipts (GDRs) on the London Stock
Exchange under the symbol "SUPD". It is the first Asian
IC design company to issue GDRs. The company current outstanding
shares are 598,202,831 shares.
Due to the expansion
of business scope, Sunplus re-organized from the functional business
units system into product business unit system end of November
in 2005. The company has spun-off the LCD IC business into Orise
Technology on March 31st, 2006. Furthermore, it has spun-off its
Controller & Peripheral BU into Sunplus Innovation Technology
Inc., Personal Entertainment BU into Sunplus mMedia Inc, and Advance
BU into Sunplus mMobile Inc. Therefore, the new Sunplus Group
with the parent company and the expertise of all subsidiaries,
can share the common resources while each of them is more focus
on their core business to maximize the values.
Sunplus, the parent company, will keep being engaged in the research,
development, design, testing and sales of high quality, high value-added
consumer integrated circuits (ICs) for home entertainment applications
such as DVD/VCD, LCD TV/DTV and STB, and developing the core intellectual
properties to share with and license to affiliates to maximize
its value.
We are dedicated to commercialize
the communication and multimedia technology, helping people enjoy
a more comfortable and convenient life.
Products and Technologies
Sunplus manages IC designing & system application technology which
provides top products and service to meet customers' needs. Sunplus
uses "core technology" such as multi-media audio/video,
single-chip µ controller, digital signal processor technologies
to develop various multimedia home products including VCD/DVD, LCD
TV/DTV, and STB which can be applied to our daily life.
Manufacturing
To emphasize professionalism, Sunplus subcontracts out wafer manufacturing,
die sawing, IC packaging & testing. Only wafer CP testing is
completed in-house. We also build up "wafer bank" strategy
with our foundries to reduce wafer lead-time and to adopt a low
volume/diversity approach to orders. In CP testing, Sunplus has
fully automated testing equipment and test programs which were designed
by our engineers for quality control and scheduling.
Marketing
Marketing strategy at Sunplus satisfies customers' needs by providing
a fully product line. We develop our customer relationships worldwide
through distributors and representatives.By integrating outside
resources we can successfully extend our market share. Sunplus keeps
providing our customers with the best support and solutions.
Advantage
Sunplus has taken the leading position in consumer IC product technology
through a combination of R&D, manufacturing and marketing. As
the IC industry has a bright future and competition becomes stronger.
Facing even greater challenges, Sunplus not only is accelerating
the R&D ability in "core technology" to focus on the
market of high-level consumer ICs but also reinvesting related companies
to benefit for long term development. We invested in the establishment
of Giantplus Tech. in 1997 to produce LCD panels and modules which
can be used in support of our products.
