Silicon Image Licenses PanelLink DVI Core to Sunplus
Science-Based Industrial Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. July 18th, 2003 - Sunplus Technology, (TAIEX: 2401, LSE: SUPD) today announced that it has taken the DVI core license from Silicon Image, (Nasdaq: SIMG), a leader in high-bandwidth semiconductor and system solutions for mass markets, and developer of the popular Digital Visual Interface (DVI) technology.

Under terms of the agreements, Sunplus may implement Silicon Image's DVI core, found in the company's market-leading PanelLinkR products, in dual-mode LC controller solutions featuring an Analog input with Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and a digital input with DVI core. Pure discrete DVI chip, such as those currently marketed by Silicon Image in the PC/display and consumer electronics markets, are excluded from the scope of the licensing agreements.

"Silicon Image's DVI Technology is the de facto standard for digital displays and Sunplus is pleased to add this capability to its rapidly expanding lines of flat panel display products," said Yarn-Chen Chen, president of Sunplus. "We believe Silicon Image's DVI technology, coupled with our high-volume manufacturing competence, will enhance our ability to deliver a comprehensive products and solutions offering to our customers."

Silicon Image President Steve Tirado noted, "These licensing agreements are part of our overall strategy to leverage our core technologies into market segments where we don't directly supply products, such as integrated monitor controllers. In doing so, we are driving the gold standard for interoperability based on our industry-leading PanelLink DVI implementation. Further, we're also helping accelerate DVI adoption by enabling these licensees to offer flat-panel display manufacturers low-cost, high-quality DVI solutions in volume, without sacrificing DVI compliance."

Silicon Image is the leading supplier of DVI transmitters and discrete DVI receivers, and PanelLink is the industry-leading DVI implementation with more than 40 million units shipped. Sunplus is a leading consumer IC design company which actively expands its product lines to flat panel solutions.
